Baryon Resonances without Quarks: a Chiral Soliton Perspective*

چکیده
In many processes involving low momentum transfer it is fruitful to regard the nucleon as a soliton or “monopole-like” configuration of the pion field. In particular, within this framework it is possible to obtain detailed predictions for pion-nucleon scattering amplitudes and for properties of baryon resonances. One can also derive model-independent linear relations between scattering amplitudes, such as TN and EN. A short survey of some recent results is given, including comparison with experimental data.

Baryon Resonances in the 1/nc Expansion
The 1/Nc expansion of QCD provides a valuable semiquantitative tool to study baryon scattering amplitudes and the short-lived baryon resonances embedded within them. A generalization of methods originally applied in chiral soliton models in the 1980’s provides the key to deriving a rigorous 1/Nc expansion. One obtains model-independent relations among amplitudes that impose mass and width degen...

We consider a chiral one-loop hedgehog soliton of the bosonized SU(2) f Nambu & Jona-Lasinio model which is embedded in a hot medium of constituent quarks. Energy and radius of the soliton are determined in self-consistent mean-field approximation. Quasi-classical corrections to the soliton energy are derived by means of the pushing and cranking approaches. The corresponding inertial parameters...
متن کاملPentaquarks in a Breathing Mode Approach to Chiral Solitons∗
Although chiral soliton model predictions for the mass of the lightest exotic pentaquark, the Θ with zero isospin and unit strangeness, have been around for some time, the study of pentaquarks as baryon resonances became popular only recently when experiments indicated their existence. These experiments were stimulated by a chiral soliton model estimate suggesting that such exotic baryons might...
متن کاملNucleon resonances in the constituent quark model with chiral symmetry
The mass spectra of nucleon resonances with spin 1 2 , 3 2 , and 5 2 are systematically studied in the constituent quark model with meson-quark coupling, which is inspired by the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry of QCD. The meson-quark coupling gives rise not only to the one-meson-exchange potential between quarks but also to the self-energy of baryon resonances due to the existence of m...
